U.S.
Sold… To the Highest Bidder!
January 14, 2011 - 2:46 PM | by: Kris GutierrezEverything is bigger in Texas, even the prices people are willing to pay for personalized license plates.
To help combat a multi-billion dollar budget deficit, the lone star state held its first ever license plate auction last night. The event was paid for by myplates.com. Myplates.com is the vendor hired by the state to market and sell the new seven-character license plates, while giving the state a cut of the money. Bidders paid more than $139,000 to snatch up the 33 pre-selected plates. Roughly $84,000 of that will go into the state’s general revenue fund.
To date, myplates.com has given the state more than 2.5 million dollars. It’s guaranteed the state $25 million over the next five years.
Must-haves from the auction:
1. FERRARI – sold for $15,000
2. COWBOYS – sold for $11,500
3. GO HORNS – sold for $10,500
4. RANGERS – sold for $10,000
