A new Israeli law now requires a referendum or super-majority of the Knesset (the Parliament) before the country will give up land in East Jerusalem or the Golan Heights as part of any peace deal.  The bill, which passed the Knesset Monday night, creates another obstacle in the road to peace with either the Palestinians or Syrians. In this morning’s Jerusalem Post, Defense Minister Ehud Barak slammed the bill saying it ties the governments hands.  The bill passed with support from  Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government but the Palestinians capitalized on the division within Israel over the bill and have been shouting from the rooftops that its another example of the Israelis “making a mockery of international law.”
