Wounded Warriors Visit Israel

October 20, 2010 - 12:24 PM | by: Leland Vittert

The sun beat down like an oven on the “clean” setting but it didn’t matter. Most of the riders  were missing a limb and that didn’t matter either…there was not one complaint among the 10 wounded American Hero’s visiting Israel for an 11 day bike tour around the country.

Most were injured in the Iraq War and have since had prosthetics fitted so they can ride.  On this trip they were joined by members of the Israeli army wounded by similar weapons—IED’s, roadside bombs and snipers.  The bonds formed so quickly it was hard to figure out which solider belonged to which Army.

The Wounded Warrior Project and Solider Ride are supported entirely by donations and provide the adventures free of charge hoping to prove a couple of points.  They want to empower the wounded solider to know that there is a life beyond their injury.  They want the American public to see the sacrifices made by these brave men and how they are handling adversity.  Lastly and for the soldiers we talked to the most important thing is inspiring soldiers recently wounded that while they may be injured the road ahead has many possibilities.
