September 29, 2010 - 8:54 AM | by: Conor PowellKABUL- A senior al-Qaida commander who led attacks in Eastern Afghanistan has been killed by a NATO airstrike according to a coalition press release.
Abdallah Umar al-Qurayshi was killed Saturday when a bomb hit the compound where he was staying in the violent and remote Korengal valley.
In addition to al-Qurayshi, NATO said the airstrike killed Abu Atta al Kuwaiti, al-Qaida explosives expert, and several other Arab foreign fighters operating in Kunar Province near the Pakistani border.
NATO did not provide any details about al-Qurayshi or say what attacks he and his group are responsible for planning but did say al-Qurayshi helped foreigners travel to Afghanistan to fight alongside the growing Taliban insurgency.
