This…is American Idol

The announcement was met with thunderous screams and cheers as Steven Tyler walked on stage and then J-Lo emerged from under the stage lifted into place amidst blowing dry-ice fog. Both appeared with Randy and then afterwards in the tent, Nigel Lythgoe responded to my question about this being a more serious angle to the show than we’ve seen in the past. He says the show may have gotten away a bit from finding true idols in recent years, especially when you compare to Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood. All the panel agreed, this year will really focus on finding true talent, there will still be fun, but singers will be encouraged to sing inside their own genre. What do you think about the judges and changes?
Since year one, I have seen just about every angle of America’s number one show…and now…likely the most interesting tune…who will be at the judges table for season 10? Just about everyone has weighed-in their thoughts and now is the time for yours…if you haven’t already. Who would you like to see and once they are announced, what do you think?
On this morning, several thousand camped out in lines formed outside the ‘Forum’ in Inglewood, California. This is the last stop on this years’ tour and each potential contestant will get between 15 and 30 seconds in front of a show producer to try and make the cut. There are a ton of tables set up inside and depending on your place in line, depends on which producer/table you end up in front of. If you make this cut, you’ll get the chance to come back in a month or so and see the executive producers, with the final step in front of the judges.
So far I have seen one girl with a newspaper dress, countless signs and several mothers or fathers holding the hands of their hopeful kids. You always cringe at some of these sights, because while it’s great to see people go for their dreams, you also know that some have been told this dream is attainable…even when being in tune isn’t so available.
At this hour the bet is that Randy Jackson, the lone original judge left, will be joined by Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler the longtime frontman for Aerosmith. However, there are also rumors that a fourth judge could be in the works. Will we see Elton or Harry? Hmm…time will tell.
