Kristie and **peanut are hitting the nail on the head. I assert that legal kids are those those who can count their legal heritage back to original legal entry through each generation in America. If we were to pay those kids slightly over minimum wage and the slightly higher wage were to be passed on in the form of marginally higher consumer prices we would still come out far ahead. First, those wages would stay in this country and contribute to the multiplier effect. Second, we would have fewer problems in school classrooms with kids who have no interest in the culture of this country, wanting rather to bring this system into parity with the one they left. Third, We would have fewer jailed illegals who rob, rape, kill and confound the work of actual Americans. Fourth, elections would be more reflective of American values. Fifth we would be paying out less in hospital costs, educational costs, public housing and welfare. Sixth, the kids employed would have a greater sense of the value of work, education and being part of society. You can continue this line of logic with your own list of social and economic benefits of closing the borders to illegal entries and deporting those who have not come here legally including those who are born to illegal entrants and who continue the culture of dishonor which becomes embedded into the political ecology at EVERY level.

I worked picking produce as a teen and learned the value of a dollar. I just feel Americans, young and old, haven't felt real hunger before. Once the Government tit dries up and they get to hurting those farm jobs my look just fine.

I absolutely hate the lies that the illegal supporter groups use! FACT: The first generation illegal immigrant comes over to work the fields. Then they either bring most of their family over from Mexico, or they start a new family here, and their children do NOT work in the fields any longer. The children then take 1, 2, 3 or more of the already scarce blue collar/white collar U.S. jobs. Also, there have always been non-illegals who will work farm fields, become ranch hands, etc. Most of our classic books about the "Dustbowl" era tell of the migration of pickers who follow the crops across the states.

Yes, field work is hard, but most jobs are. The illegals arent the only ones that know about working hard. I am caucasion and white. But race is not my issue. I have picked cotton, walnuts, prunes, peaches, apples, plums and grapes. I have swamped fruit, bucked hay and packed fruit. So dont tell me legal US citizens dont know about hard work on farms.

Not all farmworkers who pick the produce are illegals, my husband is a legal resident who pays taxes along with me, he make's $60,000.00 a year he works six days a week leaves the house a 3am to pick up the workers on the bus and returns home till 9pm because he then takes back the workers to the bus stop and then he still goes back to the office to do his paperwork he works 13hrs days no lunch break six days a week he follows the lettuce season to california for 8months and my children are left without a father because there father has no other skills but work in the field and the farmer is a millioner who does not even care about his employees or familys I which some of you would know how much suffering goes in the life of famer workers and there familys we are always being pointed out as illegals we pay taxes and qualify for no Government help and proud of it. And my family is not illegals just because my husband is a farmworker I am the proud wife and US citizen of a farmworker who a legal resident and my children are no anchor babys I am happy my husband has a job, but you should see the hurt it has caused my children to not be able to have a dad 8months out of the year not to have your father watch at your football game, receive an honor award, at school, what you child play softball, or see your band concert, or be there for you at the hospital when you have awoken up from surgery because he is in California making wealthy romain lettuce family richer who only cares about themself's.
