Feds Question Man in Stabbing Spree

August 12, 2010 - 10:30 AM | by: Jonathan Serrie

Federal authorities are questioning a “person of interest” in connection with a series of stabbing attacks in Flint, Michigan, Leesburg, Virginia and Toledo, Ohio.

Police have yet to release the man’s identity, but say local and federal authorities arrested him around 10:00 Wednesday night at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, as he attempted to board Delta Flight 152 to Tel Aviv.

The Israeli Consulate in Atlanta could not immediately confirm reports from FOX News sources that the person of interest has dual U.S./Israeli citizenship.

The violent spree, which began in May, has left five men dead, and more than a dozen others wounded.

All of the victims, except one, are African-American men. However, authorities are hesitant to rule the attacks as “hate crimes” at this time.

Police say the attacker preyed on people’s kindness, pretending to have car trouble or asking for directions and then using a knife and hammer to stab and bludgeon those who offered assistance.

Investigators say tips from the general public helped them identify this person of interest, who has ties to Leesburg and Flint. They began tracking his whereabouts, which led to his arrest, just minutes before he would have left the country.
