Q&A With Reid at Netroots
July 25, 2010 - 1:32 AM | by: Carl CameronLAS VEGAS, NV– Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada told the Netroots Convention in Las Vegas that he wished health care reform had a government run public health insurance option but he said that it will someday.
In his home state, facing a tough re-election fight against conservative Republican Sharron Angle, Reid heaped praise on the liberal blogosphere. “You, the David, overpowered the Goliath,” Reid said, crediting bloggers with helping to elect President Obama, the Democratic majorities in Congress, and advancing a liberal agenda.
Twice during his prepared remarks Reid mentioned how subdued the crowd seemed. The biggest applause came when Reid acknowledged disagreements with the liberal bloggers and admitted to mutual frustration. “I’m told I get on your nerves… and I’m here to tell you, you get on my nerves too.”
Reid is one of the Senate Democratic Majorities most endangered Republicans but he did not mention his Republican opponent Angle in his opening remarks. The latest Real Clear Politics Average of Nevada polls shows a virtual tie between the two.
