Kagan’s Judicial Hero
June 29, 2010 - 1:33 PM | by: Reena Ninan
Republican senators are expected to grill U.S. Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan over why she said Israeli Supreme Court Justice Aharon Barak is her “judicial hero.”
Republicans say they are concerned over what they see as Barak’s judicial activism.
But Naomi Levitzki, who wrote Barak’s biography, “His Honor,” defends him:
“Some justices view the law as just a dry legal means to solve issues between people,” said Levitski. “Others sees it as a means to advance human rights and to help minorities. He is definitely more on the human rights side and for helping minorities.”
I took a closer look at Justice Aharon Barak in a segment for Special Report last night.
