Father Captured After Family is Murdered
June 17, 2010 - 3:28 AM | by: Molly LinePolice have captured the man prosecutors believe killed his family, including two small children, before fleeing a scene Middlesex District Attorney Gerard Leone described as “horrific, disturbing and unspeakable.”
Thomas Mortimer, IV, 43, was apprehended by members of the Bernardston Police Department in western Massachusetts, more than 100 miles from the home he shared with his wife, children and mother-in-law in Winchester.
Two-year-old Charlotte Mortimer, her brother 4-year-old Thomas ‘Finn’ Mortimer V, their mother Laura Stone Mortimer, 41, and her mother, the children’s grandmother, Ellen Ragna Stone, 64, were found dead yesterday morning following a forced entry well-being check conducted at the family residence at 2 Windsong Lane.
“They went to that home because they were concerned relatives. They had not been able to have conversation with the family members in that house since Monday night,” said Middlesex District Attorney Gerard Leone.
Thomas Mortimer IV is facing four counts of murder. Hours before his arrest police put out a release, including a picture of the suspect and a discription of his vehicle. The info was posted on electronic signs on the Massachusetts Turnpike and other roadways.
