UVA Murder – What happened that night?

May 7, 2010 - 8:11 PM | by: Molly Henneberg

Did Yeardley Love and George Huguely have a fight in a bar just hours before the 22-year old Love, a student at the University of Virginia, was murdered in her off-campus apartment?

Charlottesville police tell Fox would not confirm that report, but said officers “have heard of events that occurred in the past” between Huguely and Love, and are investigating.

Huguely has been charged with first degree murder in the case.  He has told investigators that the two had been in a relationship previously, but were not dating at the time of her death.

A spokesman said a “number of calls” have come in to police, but have varied in the details and location of the reported fight on the night Love was killed.

Huguely’s lawyer has said that Love’s death was an accident.

Meanwhile, Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell (R) will meet with UVA President John Casteen on Tuesday at the Governor’s Mansion.  A spokeswoman for Governor McDonnell said, “The Governor wants to study and fully consider every possible idea that could help prevent such a senseless crime from taking place in the future.”

Casteen has complained publically that UVA was not notified by police when Huguely was arrested in 2008 near Washington and Lee University for public intoxication and resisting arrest.
