Dems To Nominee: Drop Out
February 5, 2010 - 4:00 PM | by: Svein SchwabUPDATE: Scott Lee Cohen decided Sunday night to resign from the Democratic ticket.
EVANSTON, IL — “He’s not going to be lieutenant governor”. Those words were repeated several times today by Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) when asked about Scott Lee Cohen. The pawnbroker and political neophyte, who spent $2 million of his personal money on his ad campaign, won the Democratic Party nomination for lieutenant governor Tuesday.
Since then the Illinois Democratic leadership has publicly suggested Cohen to drop out of the race.
US Rep Jan Schakowski (D-IL) agreed with Durbin saying that “people didn’t really pay attention”, and that “clearly this nominee got there because he spent about 2 million dollars”.
