Amanda’s “Assassin’s Mask”-The Jury Decides

December 4, 2009 - 11:34 AM | by: Greg Burke

Amanda Knox’s trial has gone to the jury, and she and her co-defendant, Raffaele Sollecito, could find out Friday night or Saturday whether they’ll walk free or spend the rest of their lives behind bars.

The jury begin deliberations about 10:40 a.m. local, and is expected to take at least 10 or 12 hours in making a decision. The jury is made up of eight people, including two judges.

“Now it’s your turn,” Amanda told the jurors in an emotional plea on Thursday, saying that she tries to stay positive in the important moments, and that this is one of them. Amanda said she was afraid of having “an assassin’s mask” forced upon her.

Both Amanda and Raffaele are charged with murder and sexual assault in the death of  Meredith Kercher,  the British student and housemate of Amanda who was stabbed to death in November of 2007.

Rudy Guede, an Ivory Coast native arrested shortly after Knox and Sollecito, opted for a speedy trial. He was convicted and sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Kercher’s parents, who have largely stayed away from the trial, and expected to be present for the verdict.
