Amanda Knox’s Ex: Give Me My Life BackDecember 3, 2009 - 8:29 AM | by: Greg Burke
Amanda Knox’s co-defendant, Raffaele Sollecito, told the court Thursday that he didn’t kill Meredith Kercher, and that he wasn’t in the house when the British student was stabbed to death in November of 2007.
Sollecito who did not take the stand during the trial, and was never subject to cross examination, took advantage of the final full day in court, reserved for rebuttals, to address the jury.
“I ask you to give me my life back,” Sollecito said. “I was caught up in an absurd situation that I don’t know anything about.”
Like Knox, Sollecito is charged with murder and sexual assault in the death of Kercher. They could face life in prison.
Sollecito, Knox’s former boyfriend, said he still has faith in the justice system. Like Knox, he has spent more than two years in jail.
The case will go to the jury on Friday, and a verdict is expected over the weekend.
Rudy Guede, an Ivory Coast native arrested shortly after Knox and Sollecito, opted for a speedy trial. He was convicted and sentenced to 30 years in prison.
