Exclusive – Kidnapped Israeli Deal is Close

November 22, 2009 - 11:49 AM | by: Michael Tobin

Exclusive – Fox News has learned that the prisoner exchange deal to release the kidnapped Israeli soldier, Gilad Shalit, has taken another important step toward finalizing.  However, a source in the Prime Minister’s office says, “This is not a done deal yet.”

The entire prisoner exchange deal involves releasing a total of 1000 Palestinian prisoners from Israeli Jails.  The hang up has always been 450 prisoners, specifically named by Hamas.  Last week, we reported that Israel rejected 70 of those names. Israel sent the names back to Hamas through German mediators.  Negotiators also sent criteria that a new list of names must meet in order for Israel to OK the release of those individuals.

We now can report that Israel received the new list of 70 names and indeed the individuals meet the criteria.

Hamas has already publicly expressed a desire to finalize the prisoner exchange by Friday, in time for the Muslim feast of Eid Al Adha.  That way the video of prisoners reuniting with their families amid great celebrations will play on Arab news channels and bolster the popularity of Hamas.

That explains why today Hamas announced an agreement on the part of all Palestinian factions in the Gaza Strip to halt the rocket fire.  The prisoner exchange deal is close but still very fragile. One rocket strike could cause it to fall apart.

disgusting and dangerous

Because of one violent crime a thousand murderous criminals will be let free. If a country wants to free its soldiers it should go to war. It should make its intentions known and let the citizens leave the area safely and then go to war and not stop until they have freed their man. If the locals want to avoid destruction, they have the ability to amass, revolt and get Gilad freed. if not they should leave. remaining and condoning the atrocities is not an option. Israel and any country has the obligation to protect and free its citizens.

Israel should send 1000 bombs to Hamas instead of 1000 terrorist prisoners.

1000 prisoners? Really? What ever happened to "non-negotiation policies?" This is absurd! I feel for the soldier's plight, but do you really think that a large percentage of these Palestinian prisoners (1000 in case you forgot) won't return to militant activities? Message to Israel from a taxpayer who funds your war machine....bring back Golda Meir!

Negotiating with terrorists will only empower them. Unfortunately this wouldn't be the first time Israel has approved the release of terrorists. Disappointing but not unexpected... but let's see it come to fruition first.

Great news! Hope Gilad makes it home finally and has great rest of his life, also those palestinian prisoners. Job isn't done yet, but i pray both sides can come together asleep for one moment.

This benefits the families only. The policies of conflict won't be altered at all by this fictitious compassion.

HOW COME ISRAEL ALWAYS HAS TO LET HUNDREDS GO FREE JUST TO GET ONE OF THEIR PEOPLE BACK? GUESS THAT SHOWS US THAT ISRAEL CARES ABOUT THEIR PEOPLE AND HUMAN LIFE AND AS USUAL HAMAS JUST WANTS A SHOW!!! WE HAVE SEEN HOW LITTLE CARE THEY HAVE FOR HUMAN LIFE.

Perhaps this story is of some significance in Israel, but I fail to see why I as an American should give a damn. Israel holds hundreds of Palestinians without charge, a number of them children. By the way Sderot, the target of some extreme factions within the Gaza Strip, is illegally occupied territory stolen from the Palestinian people.

Hamas has some Chutzpah asking for 1000 prisoners for Gilad Shalit. With Hamas it always one way. Arabs are constantly killing Jews. Israel is always giving in, and for what. The land of Israel was given to the Jews by the G-d of Abaraham, Isaac and Jacob

expecting the arabs to stop rocketing Israel is like expecting a dog not to bark... they cannot help themselves...

If anyone wonders what Hamas thinks the value of life is, here's your math: 450 Hamas Terrorists: 1 Brave Israeli Soldier.

One Jew is equal to 1000 arab muslims. Does the world get that? Does FOX get that? How many arab muslims are equal to one American soldier? I'm sure the US will be dealing with that moral dilemma soon. Then we'll start doing that math.

Staff Sergeant Shalit was not kidnapped, he was captured. Gaza has been under siege by Israel for years, refusing to let international aid organizations enter Gaza. The people of Gaza have the right to respond militarily to this action by Israel, so they captured one of the soldiers laying siege to their land.

You can't help but admire Israel for the what they will give to free one of their own. One thousand prisoners released in exchange for one Israeli soldier. Where else in the world can you see that kind of expression of solidarity.
