A logistics and warehousing company is in hot water for allegedly overcharging taxpayers tens of millions of dollars for feeding US Troops in Iraq, Afghanistan and Jordan. The United States Attorney announced a six count indictment against Kuwait-based Public Warehousing Company (PWC Logistics) at a press conference in Atlanta today. PWC, which changed their name to Agility in 2006, is a Department of Defense contractor. According to the 60 page indictment obtained by Fox News, PWC is accused of making false statements, submitting false claims and wire fraud. Investigators estimate the loss to U.S. taxpayers exceed $65 Million so far, but expect that number to grow as the investigation continues.

“This indictment is only the first step needed to address the fraud that has led to the massive overcharging of the United States,” said Acting US Attorney Gentry Shelnutt. “This office and the federal investigative agencies have dedicated ourselves to continue to pursue related serious allegations of fraud and abuse.”

The government paid PWC more than $8.5 Billion in defense contracts for supplying food to troops on the ground in the Middle East since 2003. But investigators say they discovered the company was overcharging for food and services by hiding discounts, concealing rebates and marking up the cost of food above retail prices in local markets. According to US contracts, vendors are required to pass along any rebates or discount savings to the US Government, something they say PWC intentionally failed to do.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Barbara Nelan said that PWC initially submitted false invoices and grossly undervalued quotes during the bidding process to win the contract. But federal investigators didn’t start looking into the companies actions until a civil lawsuit was filed in 2005 and someone tipped them off to the alleged overbilling.

Amazingly, despite on-going criminal investigations and today’s fraud indictments, PWC still has contracts with the government through the end of next year. Nelan and Shelnutt referred questions about PWC’s on-going defense contracts to the Department of Defense, saying it is out of their reach.

“What happens on the civil side of contracting with PWC is really beyond the scope of the criminal indictment,” Nelan says. “It is not something we are concerned with, we are just concerned with the criminal.”

A representative of the company will make an initial appearance in Federal Court in Atlanta to answer the charges on Friday.

PWC released a statement this afternoon saying "the prices it charges have been negotiated with, agreed to, and continually approved as by the U.S. government ... The government has consistently found PWC's prices to be fair and reasonable." The statement went on to say that an indictment is an allegation and they are confident the US Attorney's charges will be found to be without merit.

And when we had a holiday we would get turkey served. The problem was we had gangs of black Marines who would snatch your tray from you as you left the serving line - if you were white that is. If you tried to hold on to your tray you got ejected by the mess hall looey for instigating a riot. Naturally we still took the front teeth out of these gangster clowns on the spot, and left them scattered on the floor. Eventually we got our ID cards confiscated [when we fought back] and refused entry for days at a time. How did we eat? We raided the mess hall at midnight through the ceiling vents. We were deemed racist instigators - but there was no stopping us.

I know the company and companies involved in this indictment. Like the saying goes.."if it walks like a bribe, talks like a bribe, it is a bribe.." Sad thing is that this type of food procurement for US troops abroad is rife with such kickbacks. There is the "private sandbox" scenario in which other capable companies cannot compete, nor are they ever given a chance to do so. I only hope our govt has the not only the will to finally do somethng about it.

On a WESPAC patrol in 1974 we Marines did we we do best. We did a night raid on the walk-in Navy Food Freezers below deck at Midnight on the USS Okinawa(LPH-3) Helo Assault Carrier. We grabbed a box of frozen beef and hauled butt down the corridors (in our socks so no one heard us) and what did we find when we turned on the lights? We had a 20 pound box of beef steaks - dated June 1967. They were serving us SEVEN YEAR OLD beef on this ship. We went back and got three gallons of chocolate ice creams and distributed it into the tin cups of my Recon platoon. We felt like we got away with something after all. Anchors Aweigh swabbies!!

First thing first; it's time for a T.I.P. movement in goverment. T.I.P is a Truth In Politics law (politician tell a lie, go to jail); too many citizens are gettin hurt when all these politicians lie over and over again. T.I.P should be for any person within the USA holding a public office.

One more reason to get CIVILIANS out of the Military or make them all raise their right hand and let an XO, Sergeant Major or Master Chief do their job. It makes the train of the military bigger, but by falling under Military command, hourly pay is definitely saved. 24/7 you civies... 24/7. Sounds like Holder has his second Fraud Case... right after he's done with the Obama administration and finding out where our tax dollars went (other than the fictional 15th district of Arizona....).

Every government contract, military, medicare or anything that requires taxpayer money needs to be checked out before it is made. The trouble is their are more crooks in the government than in civilian life.

This is a drop in the bucket compared to what is going on everyday with Food Distributors in the US. This price concept is reality but much worse in US Food distribution network. It's laughable that the Justice Department is even reviewing this and then turning a complete blind eye to the food you purchase ever day for bogus programs and billions of dollar extortion marketing deals for nothing in return. Just wait until ObamaCare is a reality. How do you think a Congressman makes $185K per year and purchases million dollar homes then retires a multimillionare after 10 years or "Public service"? Wake Up people, your Life time Senators and Congressman are the problem! It's time to remove them all from office, but they continue to be reelected every time. So? Who is the stupid one here?

Our country that so many fought and died for, is going to hell in a hand-basket and truly there isn't anything we can do...it's out of control now. All I can say to all of the remarks is 'GOD HELP AMERICA' and caring Americans, there isn't many left of us.

We the American taxpayer have been bilked out of billions of dollars over the years by Defense contracted companies. Though all these companies that have "scrouged" us still receive taxpayer money it just seems to be a way of life. Remember when the companies that were building military aircraft were charging 100s of dollars for toilet seats, there punishment was to get more multi-billion contracts to build more aircraft. We seem to have this rubber stamp on our foreheads that state "we the taxpayer like being scrouged" and the government makes a big thing about finding fraud though they just keep shoveling more money at these companies for their good behavior!

As an accountant in private industry, one of my jobs is to match each invoice to a receiver, to know and enforce the terms of doing business with each vendor; and to debit any invoice that does not match to the penny with the terms and the receiver. I would be fired if I lost money for the companies I work for, and indeed, I save money at every opportunity. If the government hires lazy and substandard accounting staff - they are to blame for letting the crooks get away with the fraud.

where do you think the term "Uncle Sam" came from? There was so much greed and corruption during the Civil War one Yankee butcher started putting his name on his barrels of meat because he was proud to serve the troops, unlike the average greedy Lincoln supporter, and wanted them to know to look for his food. Everyone started to look for his food, calling him Uncle Sam and the name started to mean somebody who was looking out for your best interests. I don't think it applies anymore though.

Remember the Mustang Ranch in Nevada? The IRS took it over in 1990 (for back taxes) and ended up shuttering it and selling it on e-Bay four years later because the US Government couldn't make a profit in selling liquor and prostitution ... BIG government is there to help us... They are not happy until WE are not happy. What? You don't think they are qualified to run our banks and car manufacturers and personal health care??? Ha....

Fellow citizens, there is nothing we can do to reverse the current course of events initiated by this administration. Sadly, their agenda is young. I did not vote for them but stood by like everyone else and let it happen. It is almost impossible to reverse government expansion. The Government class knows you will pay their salaries, provide them with fine work spaces, new vehicles, and more than enough people to do the job. Even if they cheat or make horrible mistakes they know there is nothing anyone can do about it. They are comfortable they have good lawyers that will make life miserable for repeat dissenters and if you refuse to pay your taxes, jail. I wish I were more optimistic.

Remember the two women last year that had the DoD contract (doing business out of their home)and sold the government two $0.25 steel washers under a "Priority" payment system for something like $125,000 EACH?? (You read that right . . . one hundred twenty five THOUSAND of our tax dollars for one $0.25 washer). Whatever happened to the "Golden Fleece Awards"?
