Senior Citizens Break Into Military Base

November 5, 2009 - 4:28 PM | by: Dan Springer

The U.S. Navy is reviewing its security policies following an embarrassing breach this week in Washington State. Five anti-war protesters were able to cut through a perimeter fence around Naval Base Kitsap and walk around the base undetected for four and a half hours. The group included three people in the 60's and three in their 80's.

The group was protesting the nuclear weapons kept at the base and hoped to get as close to them as possible. Members claim when they cut through a second and then a third fence they were within fifty yards of a bunker where nuclear warheads are stored. The Navy dismisses that but will not divulge how close the group got to weapons. It only released a statement saying that 'at no time was the safety of Navy personnel, property or the public threatened in any way.'

The group was swarmed by Marines and arrested shortly after cutting through the third fence. They were charged with trespassing and destruction of military property, both misdemeanors punishable by up to a year in jail.

Naval Base Kitsap is home to a fleet of 11 submarines. Eight of those subs are equipped to fire the trident nuclear missiles. Also, the base reportedly is the storage facility for more than 23-hundred nuclear warheads representing about one-quarter of the nation's nuclear arsenal.

The protestors have all been released and are awaiting an initial appearance in federal court.

Excuse me, these are American citizens, not terrorists. What if, what if, what if. Who cares. I find the article quite humorous. Maybe you people who are stressing should calm down and enjoy the funny and somewhat unbelievable article these seniors have provided us with. :)

Where is the media...no one is covering this massive breach on our national security. All Americans (republicans, democrats & indenpendents) need to WAKE UP and pay attention to all of the chaos in our country, as the federal governmebnt slowly grasps at our God given rights of LIBERTY and FREEDOM. Stand up for your FREEDOM!

I was stationed at that base in the Marines. There is no way they got anywhere close to the nukes and there are not 2300 nukes there. They might have seen an ammunition bunker that is miles away from the nukes and thought the warheads were there

Susan, Your actions were unacceptable. Good people were affected. I had to hear an annoucement of a security violation every two minutes for 6 hours and workers were not allowed to work. I assume that you are a taxpayer, or have been, and you should be aware of the large amount of money you cost the government which will now be passed on to the hardworking people here. I'm also sure as always that you will be given a slap on the hand and a fine. I have no idea of what you may have been thinking. What did you think you were going to accomplish? Or do you just want your 15 mins of fame? Stay away from my workplace and I will stay away from yours.

Having guarded nuclear weapons that were in storage for maintenance, rest assured that our nuclear arsenal is safe. There are about 18 layers of protection, both physical and technological, that protect our nation's arsenal. I hope that the protesters have enjoyed their moment in the sun...now let's move on. NEXT!

Land mines just inside the fence would solve this problem.

3+3=5 That's the new math at work! Should someone think about incarcerating this liberal-head reporter since he publishes disinformation and what should be considered confidential if not top secret information? However, with all the traitors in Washington D.C., what has he actually reported that wasn't already known by anyone slightly interested in knowing these facts (except for the math). The CIA were recently criticized by Congress for not telling Congress of some of the covert operations beforehand. How on earth could there ever be a successful covert operation by the CIA if they informed Congress prior to the operation? Couldn't happen with all traitors they would be informing.

These are the same people who regulary protest outside the gates of the base. When they have a protest scheduled we are advised of the time and day and told to "be nice, no rude hand gestures". These people cost the US government a few million dollars because of boat schedules and no one being able to go outside and work for over 6 hours. They are speaking at a church here this weekend to "tell their side". They even moaned about "brutality" when they were caught. They were in an area where they could have been shot, but now they are martyrs. They need to do some jail time and pay back the government for the losses incurred. We had to sit for 6 hours with a security violation annoucement every 2 min for that 6 hours. Because they think that their cause is worthy they do not have any consideration for the people who work here just trying to earn a living.

The lack of security is due to political correctness. Lord help us if we put up a sign that threatened "lethal force will be used to stop intrusion." Political correctness will defeat this country long before Al Queda, the Taliban, illegal intrusion of Mexican's,(Yes, I know that wasn't politically correct) or any number of other wacko groups. Sometimes in the real world, you don't get what you want..so suck it up and shut your face. The 1st Amendment doesn't cover Natl. Security.
