Immigration Reform Still A Priority?

October 28, 2009 - 1:40 PM | by: Robert Lee

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Director Alejandro Mayorkas spoke to the media Wednesday in Chicago, and stated that despite a budget shortfall in excess of 100 million dollars, immigration reform remains a priority. The Director was in Chicago to meet with staff and the community in an effort to make the agency more transparent. Watch his comments here…

Frank Ejiofor

There are between 12- 20 million undocumented living in the US and the USCIS is talikng about budget shortfall. These illegals are already residing here and have jobs and pay taxes. Why not make them pay a fine, say $5000 each and that should take care of the budget shortfall. I would also point out the Americans who are out of work are not interested in the low paying jobs, illegals do because the cannot do it. First there are no benefits whatsoever. imagine riding bike with crazy cab drivers in the city of New York delivering food without no insurance and on top of that you get paid $5/hr. No American would ever do that. So lets stop this cat and mouse politics of demonizing this issue. Whenever they say Ameicans are out of jobs, they are talking about jobs in big companies that pay them fat checks for doing nothing anf give them all kinds of benefits.

Only way to be legal NOW is break the law and marry for papers. It wasn't like this when your grandparents showed up and became residents the next day. IMMIGRATION REFORM NOW! Fix the mess!

History has proven that the democrats are always cleaning up republican's mess. The economy, the health care syetem, the 2 wars, and the immigration system. The republicans just had 8years in office what did they do nothing.Yet they try to say NO to everything the dems are trying to do.President Obama has been in Office for what 9 months and all sorts of things have been said about him.Just so you know God Made Obama president so he can change America and the world in a Positive way including the IMMIGRATION system of this country and that will be done.Trust that.

Truth

Eight million Undocumented immigrants pay Social Security, Medicare and income taxes. Denying public services to people who pay their taxes is an affront to America’s bedrock belief in fairness. But many “pull-up-the-drawbridge” politicians want to do just that when it comes to Undocumented immigrants. The fact that Undocumented immigrants pay taxes at all will come as news to many Americans. A stunning two thirds of Undocumented immigrants pay Medicare, Social Security and personal income taxes. Yet, nativists like Congressman Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., have popularized the notion that illegal aliens are a colossal drain on the nation’s hospitals, schools and welfare programs — consuming services that they don’t pay for. In reality, the 1996 welfare reform bill disqualified Undocumented immigrants from nearly all means tested government programs including food stamps, housing assistance, Medicaid and Medicare-funded hospitalization. The only services that illegals can still get are emergency medical care and K-12 education. Nevertheless, Tancredo and his ilk pushed a bill through the House criminalizing all aid to illegal aliens — even private acts of charity by priests, nurses and social workers.

It will never happen, the Democrats will be out of power in 2010 if they push amnesty while 30 million Americans are out of work. 78% of us are against this. No way, no how!

The truth is a good player never lacks a team.If you are good at what you do you'll never lack a job. That's why dispite the odds Bill O'reilley,Lou Dobbs,Rush Limbaugh keep their jobs.I'm sick and tired of people saying illigals take their Jobs. There is no reason why somebody who way born in this great nation of ours should compete with mostly uneducated illigals talking about they take our jobs.

I agree with previous post that those people who have not committed crimes should be given an opportunity to legalize. if they start paying taxes everyone would benefit. Dmitry K. www.comoinmigrarausa.com

Since the hispanics have been invding this country, i have been run over by a bunch of drunk mexicans, my husband lost his job of 19 years after they hired a bunch of mexicans and still having to compete with the mexicans for a job. Where we work , they come first. I had to pay for my car being fixed. They had no license and no insurance and nothing was ever done about it. I tried to follow it through the local law officials and the case just disappeared.I heard about a lot of other cases like that too. I noticed that everyone in the media have been stoped from reporting about the hispanics like they used to but i see a lot of hispanics are still having their say. America, i think its too late. We have slept too long. We are living the nightmare and its just beginning.

First let me say that I am all for an INTELLIGENT, SYSTEMATIC, and CONTROLLED immigration policy....Now that being said....One of the arguments I hear about legalizing illegal aliens is that they are here doing the jobs that Americans don't want.....wow....pretty lofty statement......when I shut my landscaping business down because I couldn't compete, I just told myself 'well apparently its a job I didn't want'.....but putting the bitterness aside, lets assume for the sake of argument, that they are doing the jobs Americans don't want. Now lets make the illegal aliens 'legal' by giving them working papers and permanent residence....Having now been given nearly unrestricted access to the American job market, how long before they move off the farms in South West, out of the landscaping businesses in New England, meat packing plants in the Mid West, etc. Once that occurs what do we have left? Alot of jobs Americans don't want. Whose going to fill them? More illegals? At what point does this stop?

I just received a call yesterday from an organized group of spanish speaking individuals asking me to call congressman Spencer Bachus (R) of Alabama and leave a verbal message telling him to support immigration reform which would make all illegals, legal. They had a direct line to the congressman's office on which to leave a message. I asked her if she was legally in this country or not. She would not answer the question, which led me to believe she was illegal. Based on a fairly lengthy conversation, I got the distinct impression that the illegal spanish speaking population in this country are being organized into a political activist group for the purpose of changing our immigration laws. She kept repeating that our laws were broken and needed reform. I asked why she thought the law was broken and she replied, " because the law is too selective and wouldn't allow her people into the this country even if they applied to become citizen's legally (paraphrased, incorporating the use of proper english)". It makes me wonder where this activist group is getting their money to make all these phone calls and pay the callers - ACORN perhaps?

The solution is in withholding taxes. If an illegal uses someone else's SS number, the IRS should be able to detect it and alert the employer. If the employer is not withholding taxes, he should be prosecuted. In the end, we either get the taxes or the illegals have no reason to come here without employment. There should be a corresponding method to allow employers to check SS numbers. It could be something simple like checking year of birth, sex, and residence of last tax return. This would satisfy the privacy police.

Illegal aliens are people who cut the line. Remember all the times you're standing in line waiting your turn and someone ahead cuts in, often allowed in by a friend?? Do you say anything or just say "Oh Well". If you say anything you're labeled a racist. I say Americans that stand for fairness need to put a stop to it and deport those illegals snickering as they cut the line not only for the sake of the Americans who can't afford them but for their own countrymen who are waiting in line the right way.

Yes, everyone in America has been an imigrant at one time or another. But the difference is that most came in legally, via Ellis Island. Yes, it is breaking American laws not to come in. NO, maybe you didn't kill anyone or run anyone traffic lights, have any outstanding traffic tickets, whatever; but it is illegal to be across borders without registering. I'm sure you pay your taxes, and obey all other laws, but the one your're missing is just as important.

Sign me up, Paul Dee....I'll take a bus load a day back! Don't tell me we can't deport the millions that are here illegaly.. And reform the "anchor baby" laws...what part of the parents being illegal makes that baby legal???? We amend and change laws constantly, but nothing has been done to change this obsolete amendment created in Civil War times!! Outrageous!!

Don't you just love tha word they use: "Reform." It implies one or more serious problems exist and we've got a plan to fix it. Illegal immigration is surely a problem, and most folks want border security and greater limitations. But Barry, Harry and Mary (ok, her name is Nancy, but that didn't rhyme) know what is best. Their idea is to ignore the law, ignore the citizens who want immigration laws enforced and break the bank providing benefits for tens of millions, and birthright citizenship to those that had no right to be here and obtain it. American needs to kick those losers to curb.
