Bomb Explodes in Kabul
October 8, 2009 - 12:50 AM | by: Conor PowellKABUL – A large explosion rocked Afghanistan’s capital city Thursday morning.
The bomb detonated outside the Indian Embassy just before 8:30a.m. local time. Buildings and windows rattled all over Kabul. Two vehicles near the embassy were badly damaged – a UN symbol could be clearly seen on painted on one of the trucks.
According to Afghan officials, 7 people were killed and more than 45 wounded 12 people were killed and more than 80 wounded.
Last summer, the Indian Embassy was attacked in one of the deadliest assaults during the 8 year war. 60 people were killed, including several senior Indian diplomats, and more than 140 were injured.
In recent months, Kabul has been hit several times by bombs and rockets. The Taliban typically attack military and government convoys and buildings but civilians are often injured or killed.
Last month, a car bomber rammed an Italian military convoy on a road near the airport. That blast killed 10 Afghan civilians and six Italian soldiers.
