Temporary Jobs Outlook

October 1, 2009 - 12:21 PM | by: Alicia Acuna

New numbers out today by the labor department show that businesses are still nervous about hiring and that new unemployment insurance claims were up last week.

Temporaries on Stand-by in Denver can attest to the slow-to-hire factor.  As an ongoing series, Fox News is checking in with companies around the country on its road to recovery.  When we last visited Temporaries on Stand-by,  which specializes in putting people into same-day temporary work, the owner, Tom Grinstead, said the number of people they were getting out the door for jobs was down.  In July, 60 to 90 workers were placed a day, on average.  They were not accepting new applicants.

Today, Vice President and Sales Manager, Keith Law says things are a little bit worse than in July.  The company still has a freeze on new applications and the average number of folks being hired on a daily basis is down to about 50.  He says that they will keep plugging away, trying to get new clients to sign on, but that it has not been easy.  Temporaries on Stand-by takes care of all payroll responsibilities for its workers.  Today, I asked him about what he sees when he is out visiting with clients.  Take a listen: {VignetteVideo assettitl=”Temporary+Workers+Outlook” id=”1B60B1F83E818B942B279013D24B0292″ aspectratio=”1.33″ autoplay=”off” width=”375″ height=”281″ }
