Sounds From a Health Care Debate

September 29, 2009 - 5:00 PM | by: Svein Schwab

U.S. Representative Mark Kirk (R-IL) held a health care town hall meeting in Northbrook, Ill.  on Tuesday where he outlined a centrist health care proposal that according to him will lower costs, increase choice and expand coverage for Illinois families.

He discussed details of Sen. Max Baucus’ (D-MT) recently introduced health care legislation.  The Baucus bill would, according to Kirk, cost even more than Speaker Pelosi’s legislation ($1.7 trillion), reduce Medicare by $500 billion, raise taxes by more than $800 billion and pass $37 billion in unfunded Medicaid mandates to states.

It's time for everyone to get up off their butts and do something for themselves rather than hope that someone else will take care of your needs. As for myself, I recently had a $300,000.00 heart operation and I only had to pay my $300. deductable. I don't see this getting any better than that with a government option. Why do you people suppose all the Canadians and people from lots of other countries come to the U. S. to get health care?????

I for one believe nothing will change...it will only get worse...my doctors office set appointments and I still have to sit there for at least 2 hours ...also my wife and I live in a rural area not much in the way of work.. we live on about 14,000 a yr. and can not afford a 400 dollar month insurance bill....either way we get screw.. and then have to pay a fine.....

Why is Ob everywhere! One more time of him on TV I will puke! He is a disgrace to our country. He needs to go before he totally tears this whole country down along with Pelosi, Reed, and all of his cronies. Stop argueing with each other and do something about him

I feel for the people who can't get insurance because of pre-ex conditions...the insurance companies should have a 90 day window from the time poeple lose there ermployer sponsored coverage to get a plan , guarantee issue...and an open windown from Jan 1, 2010 to June 30, 2010 to get it...after that if you are uninsured it is because you don't feel like paying for it. I know people who drive nice cars, have ipods, cell phones and claim to not have enough $ .. it is bull... I pay over 50% in taxes.. I think that is enough..

Our government has never recieved one dime that it could manage.....what makes us believe that this is going to change...left...right or middle... I thought in the begining we would have hope for some change....some honesty....less political games and all we get is less honesty...no questions without prior approvals....no debate....this admin. is total crab...not what they say....what they don't say....

Here’s one for grownups. “Healthcare Fraud, Obama!” “Healthcare Fraud, Obama!” “Healthcare Fraud, Obama!” “Healthcare Fraud, Obama!” “Healthcare Fraud, Obama!” “Healthcare Fraud, Obama!” “Healthcare Fraud, Obama!” “Healthcare Fraud, Obama!” “Healthcare Fraud, Obama!”

I believe we health insurance reform. I do not believe we should have a government run health care system. I am sixty years old, not eligable for medicare yet, and unable to get health insurance of any kind because of a pre-existing condition. I have also applied for disability and was denied. What am I supposed to do? I need insurance desperately. Can't wait 5 years.

Everyone in the U.S. wants health care reform. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. What many of us want is simply to take a measured approach rather than "comprehensive" reform in the shape of an "overhaul". What's more is we don't need people in office who believe that sweeping legislation is the answer to everything that ales America. Stop creating crisis and there won't be any to "waste".
