New Charges in Terror Probe
September 24, 2009 - 11:22 AM | by: Alicia AcunaThe U.S. Justice Department just announced that the central figure in a terrorism investigation has been indicted in “…the Eastern District of New York on charge of conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction (explosive bombs) against persons or property in the United States”. Further, today, government prosecutors are expected to request that the current charge against Zazi be dropped, which would free the way for him to be transferred to New York to face the much more serious charge. Zazi is currently charged with one count of lying to a federal agent, an offense that carries an eight year prison term. The new charge of conspiracy carries life. U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said today that “We believe any imminent threat arising from this case has been disrupted…”.
