Czech Officials :Obama Let Us down
September 17, 2009 - 8:50 AM | by: Greg PalkotA long-time aide to former Czech Republic President Havel tells Fox News Havel other Czech politicians are “let down” by the apparent decision by the Obama administration to scrap a missile shield program which would have included basing in Czech Republic and Poland. “The argument of Havel was simple,” Jiri Pere told Fox, “We owe the US a lot, we should do this for our principal ally.” Additionally the “unspoken message” in the plan was to fend off Russian aggression. The stated objective was to shield the West from possible missiles from Iran and elsewhere. Ironically, the general public in eastern Europe could be less upset by today’s decision. Polls showed as much as 80% of the Czechs surveyed opposed US basing there for the shield.
