Security is Prayer Heard in House of God

Pastor Rick Stathum talks about a time he refers to as “Mayberry” when his neighbors knew one another, murders were rare and churches had an almost “divine” protection against crime and the outside world.  He realizes everyone may not remember the past that way, but for this small town pastor, it was a time he knew.  Instead Pastor Stathum sees increasing crime rates and churches like his are no longer left untouched because of who they represent.

Stathum is the pastor of Salem Baptist Church in McDonough, Georgia.  It is a medium-sized church with a congregation of about 2,000 in this far suburb south of Atlanta.  He is very aware that the world has changed along with his role as Senior Pastor is to keep his church, himself and the members of his congregation safe.

“I think that we have all seen the national news, the shooting of a pastor recently in his church when he was speaking before his congregation,” Stathum said of an incident that happened earlier this year at an Illinois Church.  “In fact I have shared with our church before and messages in the past that those kinds of things were coming and basically that we need to do everything that we can to be prepared.”

Since taking over as Pastor of Salem Baptist Church, Stathum has had to deal with theft from cars in the parking lot, medical emergencies during church services, non-custodial parental disputes in the daycare center and even a road rage incident that ended with a man pointing a gun at a woman on the front steps of the church.

“The fact is we have got to be pro-active rather than re-active and the kind of world that we live in and what people are doing, it was only a matter of time until tragedies found themselves happening in the church,”  Stathum says.

Henry County Georgia Sheriff Keith MacBrayer is very familiar with the safety and security challenges facing 21st century churches.  Although Henry County has not seen a rash of crime in and around churches, MacBrayer says all places of worship need to be prepared for the worst.  But what he found when he talked to church leaders in his count was completely the opposite.

“It just got me thinking that every church ought to have some type of plan for this situation,” MacBrayer said and then referred to a scenario he presented to churches about what to do when a threatening looking person enters the church.  “There really was no plan.  Do you call the police?  Do you not call the police?  Do you escort him out?  Do members of the church talk to him and ask if they can help him?”

MacBrayer was so concerned about the lack of security or even a basic plan of how churches would deal with a threat or emergency, he created a Security and Safety Seminar for churches.

“Many churches have members of their congregation who are active or have law enforcement backgrounds and some are retired military,”  MacBrayer said.  “We help them set up a security team and it may just be two or three people that are designated members to take action if something would happen.”

Both Pastor Stathum and Sheriff MacBrayer say having a security team in place, along with locking doors and installing security cameras can help reduce the number of crimes and speed up reaction to other emergencies that have become reality in places of worship all over the country.

“All around us there is evil, all around us there is trouble and there is difficulty and that also happens in the church,” Stathum said.  “We do our very best to provide an atmosphere not only for children, but all the way through senior adults that is safe and a safe haven in a difficult world.”

I believe in the Trinity. Alpha and Omega. However one chooses, first you "seek",then you "find" the answer about loving Christ. There are many ways to perceive parables in the Bible but the Holy Spirit gives clarity & "truth" in understanding what Jesus is saying without (taking from)/(adding to)His words. We have limited carnal knowledge - The Holy Spirit can unlock all the confusion but we must allow and receive the Spirit in our heart. It is like a gentle knock, not pushy & changes your life in an instant. The "world" will go on. Peace, love, full hearts, beautiful music - wishing these things for you Henry. Take care.

Are you saying that you follow Christ by following the Holy Ghost?

A Christian is a follower of Christ. I like Galatians 5:25-26.

Henry, the "so called Christian" references have grown weary. You seem to want churches to pay IRS taxes and become involved in the (worldly) problems. Not long ago, a very controversial issue became a huge news in California whereby a Christian church organization did get very involved. Their own funds to supported their cause and came directly from their own means. Do you have a simple view of this? It counters your outlook I believe.

You, like most so-called Christians just don’t get it. It is not about me. It is all about truth. Jesus said, I Am the truth. Then stands to reason then that every time the church fails to stand for truth, the church fails to stand for Jesus Christ. Jesus said, "Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven” Christians can proclaim the name of Jesus Christ until they are blue in the face, but if they don’t live, and stand for truth, or tolerate falsities because they don’t want to be controversial, or for peace sake, or for fear of men, then they are denying Jesus Christ before men. It is obvious then, that all churches having IRS 501c3 Tax-Exempt Status can’t proclaim truth since the IRS gags them, therefore they are denying Jesus Christ before men. It is imperative that Christians forsake all churches gagged under the IRS 501c3 Tax-exempt Code. The Bible teaches, “What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people." "Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you." "I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty."

Henry, what you need is to find that one true Church where the Bishop/Pastor is not paid, every man receives the priesthood, and everybody chips in and takes turns speaking, teaching the children, etc. A Bishop organizes everybody under a chain of command that goes right up to 12 Apostles and Christ himself as was done in the Bible. Anyway, back to the original subject, we had a string of smash-and-grabs in our parking lot, so, like we do with everything else, the Bishop had a few men take turns and walk around the lot during services. We were also worried during the CA Prop 8 campaign that the radical libs were going to send people to deface our buildings so we extended the hours of the patrols and seem to have prevented any ugliness from going on. Henry's right on that count - in the eyes of the left, Christians should keep quiet and not say anything when the libs advance their agenda and try to silence us while they slowly drag our proud country a step at a time back to Sodom and Gomorrah. Sorry, we're not going quietly, and it's not H8, it's spreading the true word of God. And we have to watch out - they're trying hard to silence us legally, calling it "hate speech" when we get up at our pulpits and say sin is still sin no matter what you call it. They have successfully prosecuted and jailed people for this. They may eventually force us to stop speaking about their sins but hopefully they'll have a harder time getting the "hate speech" removed from our KJV Bible.

You know it in your heart, your conscience is accusing you, you fully understand that you choose to go far beyond God’s grace by betraying, and denying His beloved son for thirty piece of silver (501c3), you opted to live in luxury on earth in exchange for eternal torment in hell. You should not be shock when you hear the final condemning words of the Master right before you are thrown into the lake of fire by demonic angels. Repent, before God says to you, “You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?” Do not ignore Jesus ominous warning written in Matthew 7, "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'

“Man is like a breath, his days are like a fleeting shadow" --- “Remember him before the silver cord is severed, or the golden bowl is broken; before the pitcher is shattered at the spring, or the wheel broken at the well, and the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it” Pay close attention to the words of the Master who said, “What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet loses his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? Jesus said that no one knows the day or the hour He will return, and He also said that you do not know the day or the hour you must depart this world, and face Him. Careful Pastor, you could find yourself amongst countless of other that betrayed, and denied the Holy name of Jesus Christ, and as result they are now immersed in extreme luxuries. All your earthly possessions will not help you one iota the day you stand in the presence of your Master, your magnificent mansions, your endless wardrobes, your beautiful cars you so love, and your own private jet, they will all be counted as junk.

HENRY IS A COWARD AND A FOOL. Henry is an anti-US gov. cult loony. DO NOT LISTEN TO HIM, he's a legalistic know-it-all who will throw out the baby with the bathwater. He has no clue, as to what it is, that God is up to in the world (in terms of God accomplishing His will using imperfect humans). The Henrys' of the world will never understand the Grace of God, and will never grow to be mature followers of Christ. Most likely, the Henrys' of the world are not even saved, but simply foolish loudspeakers, babbling on and on, and always complaining, never experiencing the joy of knowing Christ. Henry must indeed be biblically ignorant to make the statements he has made in this forum. DO NOT LISTEN TO HENRY!! Henry is in fact the wolf among us. He is a pretender of enormous proportion.

Pastors, and Leaders of the supposedly church of Jesus Christ closed their eyes and allowed wicked men to trample underfoot God's beloved Son, by tossing Him right out of the Halls of Government, Public Schools, Universities, Colleges, and the Mainstream Media, claiming a false wall of separation between Church and State. The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution states "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...” but that is exactly what congress did in 1954. The ruthless 36th President of the United States of America Lyndon B. Johnson, then Senator of Texas, and company, violated the First Amendment by introducing a devious amendment to the IRS 501c3 Tax-Exempt Code establishing the United States National Church of Secular Humanism in order to silence the Church of Jesus Christ by eliminating the significant influence it had up until that moment in shaping moral public policy, in affecting legislation, and in addressing moral issues in opposition to government legalized abominations. Churches gagged by the IRS 501c3 Tax-Exempt Code are prohibited to shape moral public policy, they are prohibited to draft legislation, and they are prohibited to mobilize in support of political candidates. The head of all 501c3 Churches is no other than Satan himself, the prince of darkness, the chief wolf in sheep clothing. Today’s 99.9 % of America’s Christian mainline churches are being gagged by the U.S. Government, therefore America has not only lost her moral voice, but it has also lost all sense of direction, it is just like a headless man heading straight for the pit of hell.

Dear Henry, I am sad to read the comments inspired by my pastor and my commuinty law enforcement. I feel that you choose this article to spread a message and what you belief. Isn't it nice to know that we have this ability to do so thanks to many men and women who defend our rights. Now let me tell you what I belief...that Jesus Christ is LORD and that God is our Father and has a plan for everything. Satan is real and he has a plan. We have to be aware and ready, if he comes physcially or spritual at us. The ideas that are around you and keeping you from trusting and putting your faith in Jesus is Satan himself. Take a moment to do some true soul searching on you ideas and beliefs. If anyone doubts that God is real and that we can and do belief in him, here is a some info that is Satan with a hold on you and he beliefs in God himself.

You are another deceived so-called Christian, just like millions of others who attend the IRS 501c3 Tax-Exempt temples of deception, claiming to be Christians, but in reality they are all Satan’s disciples. Those pastors will only preach that God is love, but neglect to give you the whole gospel of Christ. This is what Jesus said in Luke 14:26-27 "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple. And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple” Salvation has a cost attached you must follow Jesus only.

You know, we haven't seen much about the power of the Holy Spirit on this site but it is known throughout history to be the best defender one could possibly have. This was the sword God gave US ALL. Church has always been peace and full hearts, caring for others and beautiful music, listening to a good sermon. Sticking together to protect what is precious to us isn't a game, but the real deal if we are to keep that which we most love and rightly deserve.

What the article did not mention is what is obvious: the biggest, looming threat to houses of worship in the US are Muslim radicals. It is only a matter of time before a church or synagogue is struck by them. Most likely, a synagogue will be attacked by them first, as there have been several such plots stopped before they were effected. But there is no doubt that the oppression of non-Muslims (including Christians) by Muslims that occurs in every Muslim state will occur here given our current attitude of appeasement of their demonic hatred.
