Police Take Bite Out of Dogfighting Ring
August 20, 2009 - 5:30 PM | by: David LewkowictA man in Box Springs, GA was arrested by authorities alleging he ran a dog fighting ring involving as many as 29 pit bulls.
Antonio Monds was charged with cruelty to animals and dogfighting. The 32 year old was arrested near a wooded area where he allegedly kept the dogs staked to the ground with three foot logging chains around their necks.
Twenty Nine dogs, ranging from puppies to fully grown pit bulls, were seized. The Atlanta Humane Societyand the Georgia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals were both on scene to rescue the dogs. The animals have been taken to a facility in Columbus, GA where they will remain until they can be adopted.
Phil Gallacher, who works for a nearby private security firm, told the local paper, “several dogs had scars on their faces.”
Norred & Associates, where Gallacher works, received a tip regarding the pit bulls and contacted authorities. Gallacher says the investigation had been going on, “for about four months.”
Gallacher said, “water was solely supplied by rainwater.”
