The wee at this year’s fair includes more than just kids screaming with joy. This wii can be enjoyed more than just a few days a year in a field transformed into an amusement park. For me, it seems like yesterday. I used to remember my grandparents tell me this as we walked around the Napa Town and Country fair with my mom and dad. The smell of fried food, the call of hawkers and the latest invention. Of course there’s the rides and games, but nothing compares too the 4H barns and animals lounging in the shade. I remember being so excited for the fair each summer and while I no longer get to enjoy it with my grandparents, I love watching my niece and nephew with their parents and mine. In this case, on this day, I get to watch others while gnawing on a fried twinkie!                                                                                                                                                 Yep the sights and sounds are the same for a century, but a few new are now found across this great nation. Like a generation ago when arcades popped up along the carnival, only to eventually fade away for the most part, now comes iPhone, texting, even YouTube competitions! Here at the San Mateo County Fair, they have embraced the new technology and have even filled a green building powered by the sun. At the Sonoma-Marin fair recently, the heated texting competition resulted in a blue ribbon and a $50 dollar prize. Right along with the best jam and the biggest squash! What do you think about this new trend? The good news is the fairs keep 4-H and the Zipper.
