Governors Sign High-Speed Rail Agreement
July 27, 2009 - 4:10 PM | by: Svein SchwabThe City of Chicago and Governors in eight states, including Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio and Wisconsin, signed an agreement to develop high-speed rail service across the Midwest today.
The plan is to create a Chicago transportation hub with 110-mile-per-hour high-speed corridors to St. Louis, Detroit, Milwaukee and Minneapolis.
The Governors said that the high-speed rail system will be a boost to the economy and create thousands of jobs.
The funding for this project will come out of the Obama administration’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
